creating a moment of pause

Rendering of a client’s great room in Northern California

In the varying degrees of design and creative pursuits that I’ve endeavored, I know that one of my main motivations has always been to create a moment of pause for my clients. I believe that anything beautiful cannot be fully appreciated unless one makes the time to pause and reflect in that very moment — understandably, quite difficult in this age of constant movement.

I’ve found the most successful projects are with clients who are able to come into their space and feel an undeniable sense of ease without pinpointing exactly why. That, in my opinion, is the essence of a thoughtfully designed space: every aspect of design marrying together seamlessly, beckoning us to reach that moment of stillness and appreciation.

Although these moments have become somewhat normalized as we keep to ourselves inside our homes in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, I want to encourage this design thinking to myself, my clients, and to you all as we consider what we can do to create joy and a vision for the future.
