Part of a series showcasing different client projects by individual rooms to share a glimpse of the design process

This Los Angeles St. client came to me as she needed design help for her new pied-à-terre. As a professional photographer who travels often, she was in need of a space that could function in multiple aspects: a home-away-from-home for when she travels, a place of rest for her team, as well as a studio space for editing and creating work.
It was both a fun and challenging project in that the space constraints presented size limitations for all of the uses it would serve. Since the space itself is a studio, an open plan without any rooms, we went through several revisions of how we could best partition the sections while maximizing the square footage.

We ultimately decided to create a “bed section” and “living section”, separated by a divider at the foot of the bed to create a visual break between the two sections. The client also really wanted to fit in a small lounge space, so we added a chair and side table in the corner facing the windows to read or wind down.
We aligned so much on our aesthetic preferences, especially for Korean-inspired art and objects. The selection of furniture, art, and accessories were selected with the same calming and minimal feel, with pops of color to brighten and accent the space. The client also had a few existing furniture pieces, like the bed and dining chairs, that we worked with to create a cohesive and seamless story in form and color.

Regardless of the limitations in square footage, we optimized the function and use of the space to fit the client’s needs. So thrilled to give her the perfect home-away-from-home to maximize her creativity, work, and overall being. We’ll share the final images once the project has been fully installed!
